What are the best interview questions to ask candidates during an interview process?

We have recently had a couple of clients asking for assistance with interview question ideas, so we thought we would fire out a few ideas to help out.

As an interviewer, you have to firstly decide what key elements make a candidate ideal for your role. From there, you can formulate questions around these, that will provide the information to make informed decisions. One of the most frequently-used methods to do this, is through competency-based questions, that will allow you to evaluate how a candidate has demonstrated certain skills within their work. For example “Give me an example of a time when you’ve been put under pressure at work. How do you react?”

Of course, most companies, jobs etc will be different and will require their own distinct line of questioning, however below are a few question ideas that will hopefully provide a good measure of a candidate’s motivation, key competencies and true interest in your vacancy:

General Interview questions

  • What is your own definition of hard work?

  • What methods do you use for keeping organised?

Company-related questions

  • What do you see as the top THREE key qualities for this role?
