How do I cope with Job interview Rejection?
Job searching can be a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, experiencing a mixture of anxiety, hope, excitement and dejection! Job Interview Rejection can be a particularly tough thing to handle.
Sure it can happen…you have one interview, you love the company, the company love you and hey presto, you have a new job! In reality though, this won’t always happen and even the very best of us are likely to experience job rejection at some point in our lives. But how an earth do you cope with it? Here are a few small tips to help keep your job search on track:
Keep your options open
Don’t put all your eggs in one basket! Channel your efforts towards a number of jobs that suit your skills and experience. The more options you have, the more chance there is of making the right decision, enabling you to weigh up what’s is best for you. If the dream opportunity doesn’t come off, putting your efforts into several will mean you still have options, avoiding complete disappointment.
See the positives in your feedback
Gaining application/interview feedback isn’t always particularly easy, however if you do get some, don’t take it too personally! Rejection can, in fact be used in a really positive manner, helping you to hone your job hunting skills and enable you to get an even better opportunity. For example, if you didn’t answer something quite right or forget something important, you are certainly far less likely to forget it next time! Also, remember not every job opportunity is necessarily the right fit for you or the company.
Just keep going!
Job Interview Rejection can be a bit of a kick in the teeth, however it is something you have to expect may happen. The key is to take it on the chin, learn from the experience and come back stronger. Remember, if you continue to work hard at your job search, your efforts will eventually pay off.
